Chelan Rotary Raises Money for ShelterBox

The current Chelan Rotary President and ShelterBox Chair for District 5060, Les Cooper, recently presented the idea to contribute a year of pocket change to raise funds for the purchase of additional ShelterBoxes, as the Club had already budgeted to purchase one ShelterBox. The ShelterBox mission: "ShelterBox delivers humanitarian aid and relief on a worldwide basis in the form of material and equipment that provides shelter, warmth and comfort with dignity to people displaced by natural and other disasters."

The Chelan Rotary Club has developed a sticker for coffee cans and peanut butter jars that everyone will throw their daily change into. The graphic was developed by Gary Thompson of OnMERIT Marketing who has previously developed all of the graphics for the Chelan Century Challenge and Cycle de Vine fundraising bike rides at no charge.

To kick off "Change for ShelterBox", the club had an actual ShelterBox demonstration, which was set up during the Chelan Rotary Salmon Barbecue and Lake Chelan Fine Arts Festival (see right picture above). Les Cooper would be happy to present ShelterBox to anyone interested in becoming involved. He can be reached at lester.cooper@chelanrotary.org or at (425) 319-1278. To make a donation, purchase a ShelterBox, or become directly involved, visit www.shelterboxusa.org.
